Off topic.

But YouTube did a 2022 summary thing of music I’d been listening to this year. And the thumbnail was a collage of the videos.

All Jake Morley…

Only new music I had been listening to it turns out.

You’re the man Jake.

Happy to hear this Steve. I really enjoyed making those split screen ones earlier in the year, got a few more to go for this album too. Cheers for listening.

When my son was about 8 and we were on holiday in Greece, he told his Mum he wanted to buy me a key ring. The expression on his face when he handed it over filled me with so much pride and love. I had it until a couple of years ago when it broke…….had it for 15 years and it always took me back to the moment he gave it to me. Will that do!

Yes it will do! Thanks Nick.

It's interesting how we can all give different values to things. I've sometimes spent ages making something with love and it's not really hit the mark, and received tiny cheap things that I end up treasuring.

One year.. I was 'in-between jobs' and had the 'great' idea to make all my presents. Yes... ! I made a set of draughts for someone.. which was the genius idea of buying a broom handle.. sawing off a 'counter'.. move along.. saw again... Didn't need to paint the 'white' ones.. Yay! So that was a result. The folding three panel board was fun too I'll admit.

The GOOD thing, is you don't need to go Christmas Shopping. A lot of blisters were involved though.

When I was younger I handmade chess sets for my brothers. That was fun. Just feels like I don't have (make?) time for that kind of thing these days. Maybe it's just different phases of life?

Wow - carving chess pieces is definitely one up from sawing up a broom handle! I did actually start carving a cat out of a solid piece of wood that Christmas.. for my Dad.. then got just below the ears and realised I hadn't a clue what a cat looked like in 3D!

Yes.. we should definitely make more time for this sort of thing. I sometimes wonder if I could stitch together all the time I spend in front of a computer screen.. what else I may yet accomplish!

Last one from me (for now).

Saw this the other day, made me laugh hard:

https://twitter.com/GerryMcBride/status/1594798283603451905?s=20&t=BmktiQ1E_QmJRbSwCFV-zg

"You hand your Dad a gift on Christmas morning. He inspects the wrapping- it feels like a jumper or pair of trousers. But then he opens it- it’s a SKIP BAG. Bought & paid for, all he has to do is fill it and ring for collection. He finally gives you that hug you’ve always wanted."

This is genius and I for one would love to unwrap that.

The other one is designing a little fridge magnet every year, usually involving some private joke and the use of Photoshop. Sometimes in July I think 'ooh maybe that would make for a good fridge magnet this year'.

It started from designing fridge magnet merch which by the way I need to get back into.

The first year I met my wife I wrote her a song for Christmas, and the year after I did the same. A neat idea when you're young and in love!

7 songs later and I'll admit there has been a rare moment or two when it felt like more of an obligation handed down by my past self. Thanks buddy. But then I sit down at a piano and feel really grateful for it. I love watching them build up over the years.

Haha.. this reminds me of my 'Album of the Year' challenge I set myself on our behalf when we met in 2011. As it happens.. I'd just heard of Too Many Fish that year.. so that was easy...! But the years roll by and I laugh when I read your 'felt more of an obligation' ! Haha.. 11 years (thanks for this year again btw.. don't know where you were for The Manual.. I obviously didn't get that email...). But yes.. now I look back.. and I'm glad for all the albums I chose. It's not always easy liking the same music as your other half, so... But I pride myself on not turning into a 'Fuddy-Duddy' (great concept for a fridge magnet there with that word I'm sure) and choosing new music every year from that year will keep me young!
