Off topic.

But YouTube did a 2022 summary thing of music I’d been listening to this year. And the thumbnail was a collage of the videos.

All Jake Morley…

Only new music I had been listening to it turns out.

You’re the man Jake.

When my son was about 8 and we were on holiday in Greece, he told his Mum he wanted to buy me a key ring. The expression on his face when he handed it over filled me with so much pride and love. I had it until a couple of years ago when it broke…….had it for 15 years and it always took me back to the moment he gave it to me. Will that do!

One year.. I was 'in-between jobs' and had the 'great' idea to make all my presents. Yes... ! I made a set of draughts for someone.. which was the genius idea of buying a broom handle.. sawing off a 'counter'.. move along.. saw again... Didn't need to paint the 'white' ones.. Yay! So that was a result. The folding three panel board was fun too I'll admit.

The GOOD thing, is you don't need to go Christmas Shopping. A lot of blisters were involved though.

Last one from me (for now).

Saw this the other day, made me laugh hard:

"You hand your Dad a gift on Christmas morning. He inspects the wrapping- it feels like a jumper or pair of trousers. But then he opens it- it’s a SKIP BAG. Bought & paid for, all he has to do is fill it and ring for collection. He finally gives you that hug you’ve always wanted."

This is genius and I for one would love to unwrap that.

The other one is designing a little fridge magnet every year, usually involving some private joke and the use of Photoshop. Sometimes in July I think 'ooh maybe that would make for a good fridge magnet this year'.

It started from designing fridge magnet merch which by the way I need to get back into.

The first year I met my wife I wrote her a song for Christmas, and the year after I did the same. A neat idea when you're young and in love!

7 songs later and I'll admit there has been a rare moment or two when it felt like more of an obligation handed down by my past self. Thanks buddy. But then I sit down at a piano and feel really grateful for it. I love watching them build up over the years.
