Took me far too long to decide on one track, but I had this on repeat a lot last year. It still gives me goosebumps, and I think the rest of the album is beautiful.
Thank you!! Am I remembering right that the two of you played shows together a while back? I think that’s where I first heard her and she was fantastic, so time to rediscover her music!
I used to walk into record shops and ask staff to recommend me things and buy them on trust. Had a couple of misses, but almost all hits.
Came home with that album once - The Midnight Organ Fight. Loved it, although never got any other FR ones for some reason. Tragic what happened to Scott, he changed a lot of lives.
I Am So Tired Of That Line, by Wallis Bird. Love this whole album but this is a classic example (for me) of when track 2 becomes my default start track for an album. Such a good beat, perfect for hitting play as you walk out the door and march off into your day! https://open.spotify.com/track/1etBJdXUgdyNx4Sj41bBS6?si=DR5IGANzSImRqUh5cTbgZg
HELLS YEAH!! First saw/heard her at Shambala 2017, been obsessed ever since! Jake even walked a 2 months old Ru round in the buggy so I could see her play in Shepherd’s Bush in 2019 x
Just listened to that and a few others (thank you YouTube autoplay). I got to sing sea shanties with the MacColls at the royal festival hall a few years back, a huge treat.
Every night before bed, we have a routine with my 2 year old daughter, Suvi. The final piece (after reading two books of her choice) to this is playing some music. We always start with a Summertime cover by Billy Strings. She knows that it means the night is ending and she pretty much puts herself to bed after that. https://youtu.be/sl4ObkuhYlI
This is usually followed by 3-4 songs that vary each night depending on if she’s restless, but Summertime is always the starter song.
Love the idea of just giving a song huge meaning just by how you bring it into your life. Also a wonderful recording too. Another friend of mine sang her daughter the same song every night for about 10 years.
https://youtu.be/edikctKq3DA. This is ‘Isabella’ a track on the last James CD All The Colours Of You. A band that just seems to get better and better. Hope to get to see this played live during 2022.
Currently listening to the album 'Follow The Leader' by Tom Williams, a singer songwriter based down in Hastings. Was released last summer but the lyrics to the opening track, 'Petrol Station', are very apt right now.
I just cooked with Simon & Garfunkel - ‘keep the customer satisfied’. I found myself singing and knowing all the words to the whole album, god knows what the neighbours thought or passers by the open window thought 😂 An oldie but a goodie.
Currently enjoying Fatso by Warmduscher. Just one of those randoms you hear on the radio and now I have it on repeat https://open.spotify.com/track/0IvQIjrZT6orErdAwAJSij?si=7338050626b84e43. Also heard glimpses of the new Tears for Fears album. Never was much of a fan in the 80's but now their songs are classics. Definitely going to be giving that a proper listen
Thanks for the thread Jake! So many I could share but will go with this gem from a recent EP of my favourite band Half Moon Run https://youtu.be/MLplaLSiuBs
That band have been on my periphery for a while, maybe heard a single or two but they didn't stick with me. Enjoyed that a lot though, a nice melancholic mood. Thank you!
Glat you liked it. I fell in love with them at first listen when I came across their first record "Dark Eyes". Then I saw them live and oh boy, are they a great live band! They are all multi-instrumentalists and the drummer is a classically trained pianist who simultaneously plays drums and keys whilst also helping on backing vocals! Turns out some men can multitask! ; )
I’ve just got into vinyl (very late to the game I know) so bought some classic albums I’ve had but always wanted on vinyl. Tom Misch- beat tape 2, Bon iver- Bon iver, unbreakable- james newton howard, james Horner the classics, and M83- hurry up we’re dreaming.
Edit: sorry I just saw that you asked for just one 🙈
Anyone who has accused me of using more words in a song than I should, wait til you meet Mathias Kom. Throw out any preconceptions you may have from the title, this is an irresistibly charming song from one of my absolute favourite bands. They have a new single out now, but this is the classic gateway track.
Loved this track Jake and it's casual observational humour reminded me of the songwriter Tom Lehrer. This song by him was covered by a guest at our wedding :) https://youtu.be/TytGOeiW0aE
Brave New World by Kalandra.

Love this Sarah, needs further listens I think!
Also reminds me that my friend Bryde is on tour right now. If you haven't heard her definitely take a listen. https://www.brydemusic.com
Thank you!! Am I remembering right that the two of you played shows together a while back? I think that’s where I first heard her and she was fantastic, so time to rediscover her music!
Blinding Lights cover by Gary Barlow & the Band. this was the first live music I had seen post COVID, and the band is amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3xIDbaXUQ4

Have been taking a lot of comfort from 'The Modern Leper' by Frightened Rabbit recently. pain -> defiant, compassionate, great music is always inspiring to me: https://frightenedrabbit.bandcamp.com/track/the-modern-leper.

Love this. Your girl's back! I'm seeing bags of confidence.
Parade by Hundred Waters. You’ll love it. I do.
I do. I do love it.
That album’s full of absolute gold.
"without your hands to hold" by Black Swan Lane (and lots of Paper Aeroplanes / Bryde in readiness for Saturday night gig :-).
Black Swan Lane - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfgv1KGxozM
Enjoy the gig! Glad Sarah can finally hit the road after having to postpone a bunch of times.
Indeed Jake - third time lucky (presuming the tickets shipped on Monday actually arrive!:-)
Late comer to Richard Ashcroft, can't get enough of him.

Stumbled on this classic song rehashed by REM - Beautiful https://open.spotify.com/album/35B6Tl6RKNSP6fyZrzR6Qb?si=0JFC5SmQRpKRNhf3wXMmJA
That takes me to the album Mick, did you have a song in particular in mind?
Sorry about that, it was Munich originally by Editors 👍
Currently listening to the album 'Follow The Leader' by Tom Williams, a singer songwriter based down in Hastings. Was released last summer but the lyrics to the opening track, 'Petrol Station', are very apt right now.
Ahh yes previously '...& The Boat'. Great live, though it's been a while now. Enjoying this political stuff.
Good choice

Re-visiting Hue and Cry ‘open soul. Great sound. Great vocals
I can't write left-handed - John Legend & The Roots version
wow, amazing. 5 minutes in and still glad there's another 7 to go
Topical choice. Here's a link to that:

I’ve just got into vinyl (very late to the game I know) so bought some classic albums I’ve had but always wanted on vinyl. Tom Misch- beat tape 2, Bon iver- Bon iver, unbreakable- james newton howard, james Horner the classics, and M83- hurry up we’re dreaming.

Some classics there, and others I don't know at all.
Here's a link to your first one for anyone interested:

It’s such a good album.
Some on my list are soundtracks. I’m really really nerdishly into movie soundtracks. Had to buy a few classic John Williams ones too 😎
Any recommendations welcome!
