I'm just slowly finding a new way to play guitar after surgery left me less mobile in my arm and hand. This song was very emotional for me :) Thank you. You have a skill for making the very sad sort of funny and the very funny sort of sad xx
Minnie... that sounds really tough, I hope you have a great recovery. Do you know Ryan Keen? He went through something similar and came back much stronger.
"making the very sad sort of funny and the very funny sort of sad" wow... this may be one of my favourite compliments ever. Thank you 💜
I really like the song but I dont really care what you sing just to hear you sing again and your guitar style makes me happy and reminds me of good times with friends x
This song brings such a smile to my face Jake. Thanks for your words that explain your trepidation prior to the gig.
I'm the guy who runs Wigfest. It's a small festival in memory of a dear friend who lost her fight to Cancer 10 years ago now. The Summer before she died she held a festival, one last celebration of life, and on the Sunday we were all invited to wear wigs in solidarity with her. I have kept her memory alive with Wigfest, a music weekend for family and friends with all profits going to Cancer related charities.
In 2021 it was the second time that I had invited Jake to play and we were all so excited to have him back. I could tell when he turned up that the anxiety that we all had contracted, due to Covid, was also within him. This, I'm sure, was compounded by his position on the bill. Playing between 3 bands that were playing loud, energetic rock and grunge! Sorry for that Jake.
He needn't have worried though. This song truly was a bonding experience. The lyrics explained to us all of Jake's internal worries and the Wigfest crowd , on that night, were the perfect medicine for Jake and we all witnessed a man who visibly relaxed after the last chord was struck.
You also helped me that night Jake and your generosity and empathy for my anxiousness will never leave my memory and such acts of kindness are the reason why I love live music and all who share such positivity.
Thanks for sharing, Jake. Your feelings, as ever, communicated so openly. Your nerves and uncertainty are so palpable but your charm and lyrical flair still cuts through. Lovely song x
It’s actually a great song…and has the basis for infinite re-use. Barenaked Ladies always warm their audience by tailoring a song to the venue…this is the perfect song to tweak to a venue, including a couple of local things etc..instant audience engagement (in my opinion)
Like it Jake - great idea just playing the once and not again for those attending :-)
This one is just plain fun. It’s heartfelt, it’s enjoyable and catchy. Now I want to go to wigfest.
Guess I'll see you there Ben!
I read/listened to this yesterday and it is such an ear worm. I completely in love with this sound <3
Thanks for sharing that Amber!

I don't know Ryan Keen, I shall take a listen. Thank you x
Sure he'd be happy to talk to you about it, let me know if I can help.
Love it - and your voice is sounding great! All the singing while changing nappies obviously hasn't been wasted ;-)
Lovely Jake. We’ll said…
Yes! Sing out the anxiety! I wish I could’ve been at that gig!
You a lovely fella innit. Keep ‘em coming babes - they light up my day every time. xx

I never knew this history Keith, what a beautiful origin story.
Thanks again for inviting me last year, am glad I didn't cancel!

That's not a bad idea Ian! A bit of extra effort like that goes a long way.
