Really glad you shared it. I can TOTALLY relate to the treasures and trinkets. When I was young I had a bag by the door so I could grab them and run if there was a fire!!!
I am not-so-secretly-now glad The Flood was first though. Such a stonker of a tune. It got me hook line and sinker.
It was a lovely listen/ read, and so relatable as every trip to France means a day spent in the cellar going through old boxes, smelling mildly musty memory-filled pockets of treasures, taking pictures of beloved dust covered trinkets before they go on to their forever home or get donated for a new lease of life, pocketing a few to bring to the Island... And re-filling the box with objects too dear to go yet...
It's really good to hear from you, I hope everyone at home is well. hugs!
Hi Jake. This is like a late Christmas present for us! We love love love The Manual and after all this time getting another gem from this recording session seems like magic! Bravo and thanks so much for sharing! The Macdonald Family xo
The Manual is the first record of yours we ever listened to and we fell in love. From a musical/skill perspective, lyrics, raw, honest, beautiful, unique. Could totally hear this on The Manual but can also appreciate why you chose to cut it, albeit reluctantly. Anyway, I'm crying now. Profound, thought provoking and cathartic as always, Jake. Love it and you! Can't wait to hear more. Set up a subscription service...we will be there. Faye and Colin x
Like it, very you!! And interesting what you said about ‘The Manual’. I was so looking forward to it and then didn’t feel it hit the heights of the previous one. So understanding you were spinning off in a number of directions makes sense!!
Brilliant…as always. From one musician to another, please keep birthing these songs. Potent, honest lyrics reach fewer and fewer people these days. Your lyrics tend to subvert the walls we put up…and that’s a great thing bruv.
This is very beautiful - it is deep down personal you - yes it would have worked on "The Manual" - it's at the 'raw and instantly lovable' end of your creations - so possibly as the final track?

I'll consider myself warned... :-P
Why did I only sign up to this mailing list now?

Forgotten how lovely this is. I must've fallen into a trap....
